The Milkmaid Braid

The “milkmaid braid” has been around for a while now, but is evolving into a huge trend this Fall.
Instead of tying your hair up in the usual ponytail, try braiding the hair and wrapping it around your head like a headband.

To achieve this look all you need is long hair past your shoulders.  If your hair isn’t long enough, a thick hair extension can become an easy fix, but be sure to get a perfect colour match to your real hair.

Here’s how to create the milkmaid braids on your own:

1

On damp hair begin by applying a smoothing crème such as Redken Outshine anti-frizz Polishing Milk.

2

Create a center part and blow-dry your hair downward at a 45 degree angle using a nozzle attachment for a smooth look.

3

Using your part as a guideline, create two braids and secure each braid with a small hair elastic at the bottom..

4 Next cross the braids over the top of your head and secure with bobby pins, being careful to hide the hair elastics while pinning.

5 Finish the look with a strong hold, fast drying hairspray such as the Redken Quickdry.

Not daring enough to model the milkmaid braids?  Here is another version that creates a similar look and is still just as effortless.

1

Follow steps one and two from the above directions, then create a center part and leave out a three inch section of hair from above the ear.

2

Put the remaining hair into a low loose bun.

3

Next, braid the section of hair that is left out and secure it with a small elastic band.

4 Once the section is braided bring it over the top of your head to create a braid headband.

Anyway you incorporate a braid into your look, you’re sure to be a Fall trendsetter, so keep on experimenting!
